It is good to see you are still around and kicking LL.
After running Meridian for the last year or so, and having run two larger corporations in 03/04, AND having been through the corp website "mill" all three times, I settled on Guildportal. The reason? I don't code. If a corp depends upon one or two web guru's, and those guys go their separate ways, the corp website gets orphaned. With guildportal, it isn't as "blingy", but its never orphaned. That said, if the CEO codes, and has the time/wherewithal to maintain a site, then bling is goood. 
To answer your questions:
Guests What they are looking for:
1. To join.
2. To spy
3. Curious/alliance member.
4. Customer.
As a visitor, I want to see that the corp 'cares', and has some nice eye candy without being overwhelmed by it.
(easy on the eyes, entertaining, but ultimately an info portal.)
A good corp site:
A good site has fairly updated news (public portal), a good mission statement about the corp, and access to the guest/visitor forum sections. If the corp is industrial/sales based, then DEFINITELY a good visible way to get to the purchase request sections.
Key is ease of use, combined with logically placed links/tabs and oh, large enough fonts for older farts.
As a member of a corp:
1. INFORMATION
2. Fast links to news/calendar/forums/alliance connections/quick info. Things that make it easy to keep up with what the corporation is up to at a glance.
3. Oh, and a killboard that is ALSO easy to use/understand.
As I maintain Meridian's web portal, I'd like to see a bit more customization, but with guildportal, I don't have to worry about maintenance or coding. (see above.)
Features...as long as the news/calendaring/forums are easy to navigate, easy to read, and fast to get to, I've discovered that 95% of what its used for is out of game comms between corp members/killboard checks (or in the case of an industrial, customer orders/tracking).
Your site is shaping up nicely by the way.
Now get out there and make some new flicks! (My corp videographer needs competition! -heh heh.)
